Why do You Need SCAATAP?
School reform efforts in the past several decades have focused the role of the school counselor as well as counseling programs on student achievement. School counselors are now playing a contributing role in the national accountability movement brought into focus by No Child Left Behind.
School counselors must be integrally involved in improving student achievement and providing results of counseling activities with students is a critical component of demonstrating this partnership. School counseling programs must be data driven. Failure on the part of school counselors to take a leadership role in the current educational reform efforts sweeping our nation will destine school counseling programs to an ancillary role and possible budget cuts.
SCAATAP provides school counselors a quick and easy way to record activities and create daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports. The data generated by these reports will provide the “process” accountability that administrators and policy-makers desire. The reports will help answer the question “What do school counselors do?”
The time saved by school counselors using SCAATAP will allow school counselors more time to work with students, parents and staff members. It will provide data that may protect school counselors from budget cuts and provide useful information for results reports and closing the gap reports. SCAATAP is linked to the newly released American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model, which provides a framework for school counseling programs.
